Seeking Board Members

PFLAG Seattle Chapter is looking for a few motivated and passionate folks to serve on or help the Board of Directors. The current board consists of 5 people who manage several projects, meetings, events, speaker requests, and support inquiries. We could use YOUR help! If you feel passionately about the well-being, safety, and acceptance of the LGBTQ community in and around Seattle, please consider joining the board or serving as an ambassador. We will provide adequate training and resources. Let’s all work together to continue to make PFLAG Seattle a safe and nurturing organization for those who need our services. Parents, LGBT persons and Allies are encouraged to apply!

Volunteer with PFLAG Seattle

PFLAG Seattle will be present at several events this summer including Pride, Renton River Days, and Kent Cornucopia Days and we could use your help! There are many opportunities for you to help us at our PFLAG Booth – even if it’s just for a couple of hours. We would be so grateful and you get the joy of helping those looking for info, resources, and support.

You Gave Big to PFLAG Seattle!

giveBig2013

It was very exciting for PFLAG Seattle to be a part of the Seattle Foundation’s GiveBIG fund-raising campaign for the first time this year. Thanks to all who made donations on the one day of giving on May 15. We raised more than $1,500, which will help us pay for things like the rent for our support-meeting space and the PFLAG booklets that we provide for free to LGBT persons and their families and friends at schools, community festivals and other events throughout the year.

In addition to your donations, we’ll get extra funds from GiveBIG’s $1 million stretch pool. We don’t yet know what that amount will be, but we will welcome whatever amount comes our way.

Thanks again for supporting PFLAG and the LGBT community we serve.

Bullying PSA

As the new school year begins, there may be many students who fear returning to school because they have been bullied for being perceived as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. To cope, these youth may clash with and lash out at the people who want to know what’s wrong and how they can help: parents, friends and other family members. Communication can become impossible.

The chapters of PFLAG (Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays) are there for families to find ways to keep communication flowing and to rebuild strong bonds.

Starting this week, the Seattle chapter of PFLAG is unveiling a public-service announcement on Seattle-area television stations that lets youth and their families and allies know there is a safe place to come talk and find support.

Please share our full-length version of the video and this message with everyone you know via Facebook and any other means.

If you or someone you know needs resources to deal with an immediate need, please read through our Bullying webpage for additional information

Thank you and may this school year be a safer place for all students.

March 3 – Marriage Equality Video

PFLAG Bellevue Chapter is inviting all Equal Marriage allies to gather at Volunteer Park on March 3, 2012:
When: Saturday, March 3 (or if rainy, Saturday, March 10)
Time: 1:30 pm sharp!
Place: Volunteer Park, 1247- 15th Ave East, Seattle ( look for the flag with stars and rainbow stripes)

PFLAG Bellevue Chapter invites you to join us as we film our uplifting video that showcases our steadfast support for the LGBT community. We need a crowd of people standing (or sitting) in solidarity as these words are being said:

“To all the politicians who are running for office in 2012:
We are the parents, families, and friends of the LGBT community and we are listening to what you are saying about those we love. We are your constituents too! We are NOT the “insignificant few.”
We are united.
We are many.
We care.
And we are voting in November.
Please join us as we recognize that this is our year, this is our time, and it is indeed our privilege to claim the American Dream for our loved ones.”

There will be an aerial shot so we need as many of you as possible!
Children, babies, grandmas and grandpas are welcome. Dress is casual (no logos or words) but professional uniforms are a plus! (military, clergy, firefighter, police officer etc.) Please RSVP to nslmbrown@msn.com.
